A commonly used acronym for Sustainability Reporting or Sustainability Disclosure, it refers to a set of factors that define corporate responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Environmental, social, and governance indicators are the components of a sustainability assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What each of these factors means in the context of ESG reporting will be discussed in the following lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Environmental performance (Environment)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Measure a company&#8217;s sustainability efforts and focus on<strong> assessing the company&#8217;s environmental impact<\/strong>. and complex topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The existence of these frameworks is a challenge in itself, as the sheer number of different guidelines makes it difficult to understand which ones are applicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important highlights to know are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It stands for Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replaces NFRD (Non-financial Reporting Directive);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enters into force in 2024;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contains more specific reporting requirements;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>External audit is mandatory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requires numerical tagging of data in line with ESEF;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicable to more organizations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Part of the governance report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding standards;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ESRS 1 provides general guidance with no specific requirements;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ESRS 2 is mandatory for all companies subject to CSRD;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All other requirements are subject to a double materiality assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-70153b9\" data-block-id=\"70153b9\"><style>.stk-70153b9{height:35px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EU Taxonomy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the most part, this is a voluntary framework. Companies that are covered by the NFRD, and in the future will be covered by the CSRD, are required to disclose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The framework is based on 6 objectives:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Climate change mitigation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adapt to the impacts of climate change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainable use and conservation of water and marine resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transition to a circular economy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pollution prevention and control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conservation and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Within this framework, there are 3 key performance indicators to be considered:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turnover: what percentage of the company&#8217;s turnover is in line with the taxonomy objectives;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capital expenditure: What percentage of the company&#8217;s capital expenditure is in line with the taxonomy objectives;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OpEx: What percentage of the company&#8217;s operating expenses are consistent with the taxonomy&#8217;s objectives?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition to the 6 objectives and 3 KPIs, it is also categorized by the Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) objective, which means that the harm caused by a company initiative cannot outweigh the benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-08cf37b\" data-block-id=\"08cf37b\"><style>.stk-08cf37b{height:35px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IFRS Sustainability disclosure standards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Two standards were created on 26 June 2023 by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), intended to be applied together but covering different areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IFRS S1<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Consists of core sustainability reporting standards. Requires disclosure of material information about sustainability risks and opportunities alongside financial statements. Industry-specific disclosures should be used in addition to SASB standards for guidance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reference should be made to external sources to identify sustainability-related risks and opportunities (excluding IFRS S2). Provide disclosures that link resilience risks and opportunities to the financial statements. Not limited by GAAP requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IFRS S2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Strategy disclosures should distinguish between physical and transitional risks. Disclosure of plans to address climate-related risks and opportunities, including compliance with legal and regulatory objectives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conduct scenario analysis to explain the potential impacts of climate-related events on the business. The companies that are required to include sustainability disclosures in their reports are those that are currently required to prepare a non-financial disclosure &#8211; these are all companies with more than 500 employees engaged in public interest activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2023, the European Commission changed the threshold for companies that will be required to prepare ESG reports from 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the changes adopted in 2025, all large enterprises meeting two of the following conditions will be added to this scope:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have more than 250 employees;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they have a total balance sheet of more than EUR 25 million;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have net revenues of more than EUR 50 million.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 2027, all small and medium-sized enterprises whose securities are admitted to trading on a regulated market in the EC and meet two of the following conditions will be added to the companies that will be required to produce EG statements (starting in 2026):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have more than 10 employees;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the total
